I am currently a secretary/transcriptionist and part-time doctoral student in Reading/Writing/Literacy education at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education. I'm interested in the intersections of identity, power, writing, and social positioning. I am equally and deeply committed to work that promotes social justice and action.

As a community member, I volunteer with ActionAIDS and have worked with Asian Arts Initiative, two local non-profits dedicated to enriching and improving the lives of people and communities in Philadelphia. Last year, I co-founded Philadelphia Immigrant Mentoring Collaborative (PIMC), a volunteer organization that pairs mentors with immigrant youth around the city who are interested in practicing English, working on other school subjects, and preparing for school, college, and work.  If you are interested in working with PIMC, please use the form in the contact section of this site or email me at melissakapadiabodi@gmail.com.
